Can WMware modefy an ordinare Linux kernal for home users? I always learn best by usin stuff in my daily life. I would love to run ESXi on a computer/laptop that is not noicy ore dominating. (I prefer 300% vmware but as u can see.), i had to relearn a new software, when i was quite used to VMware at work, and i wonder, isnt this kind of lack of support for el-cheapo parts, driving enthusiast people (That most of the time are IT guys at home) toward market rivals?.ĭont forget that no matter how expensive the hardware is, there's always a guy behind it, and chances are that the guy (like me) would try to use it and find it impossible to do it. I had to put a home server, i was expecting to do so using VMware ESXi, but given its lack of drivers, i had to go with Xenserver 5.0 Express, thing that doesnt really make me happy ,but i had to face reality that it was the only cheap option for home. I agree with most people here, since VMware ESXi became free, lots of people are testing it at home, for different reasons, some need to perfect their skills with the software to use it in production, others (like me) try to put some small economic servers for home use, things that would represent a light workload on ESXi (compared with enterprise iron), so theoretically its possible, we just need drivers, basicly we need drivers for Realtek and Marvell Nics, and also for most chipsets, nvidia chipsets MCPs and intel ICHs perhaps even AMD's SB600/700 and others cos these appear everywhere.
